Blue Cross Kisumu is working on the project of alcohol and other substances abuse prevention for children and youth since 2018 in Kisumu East and Kisumu Central sub-counties. This project goal is to ensure children and youth live free from alcohol and other substance abuse within the project area. The project is implemented in primary and secondary schools where children were recruited in the primary schools while youth were recruited in secondary schools.
The children and youth go through life skills sessions which are conducted by our facilitators using Blue Cross Life skills manual.
Currently, we are working with 14 partner schools with a total of 750 children and youth in (8 primary schools and 6 secondary schools). The recruited children and youth are taken through the life skills sessions at least once every week in the school compounds or in base camp within their communities. The life skills session is being conducted by the Blue Cross Kisumu facilitators who were trained on Life skill education and guided by a life skill manual which is in use.
The children and youth have come up with child-led activities within schools and in their communities where they are creating awareness on issues affecting them and what they learnt during their life skills sessions which are key in our life skills manual that enable the children to connect what they learn in learning places with what’s in their living place.
